Congressman Farenthold Statement on Texas Ending Medicaid Participation with Planned Parenthood
WASHINGTON D.C. – Congressman Blake Farenthold (R-TX-27) released the following statement today after Governor Greg Abbott announced the state of Texas is ending Medicaid participation with Planned Parenthood.
“Planned Parenthood affiliates in Texas have already proven that they cannot be trusted with taxpayer dollars, as evidenced by the $4.3 million settlement for false claims to Medicaid and the Texas Women’s Health Program in 2013,” Congressman Farenthold said. “While I believe that we should have access to quality and affordable healthcare, I also believe that those same services are being offered at health centers in far greater numbers across the state and without the possibility of taxpayer funds being used for things many Americans don’t morally agree with. According to Planned Parenthood’s own tax documents, the organization is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on galas and parties while taking taxpayer dollars. Planned Parenthood is also shifting money from its non-profit 501(c)3 to its 501(c)4 to use that money to pay for campaigns and political advertising. That’s not what I want my taxpayer dollars used for and I think most Texans would agree with me.”
