Urging Senate Action on Harvey Relief

This week, I, along with members of the Texas delegation wrote a letter to Senate leadership urging quick action on a third emergency supplemental spending bill to provide critical relief to impacted areas and the people who have been living in temporary shelter in the State of Texas since Hurricane Harvey made landfall last August. The House has passed legislation to provide critical funds for Texas and the other states and territories damaged by the devastating hurricane season of 2017. The Senate must do so as well.

President Trump's First State of the Union

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump gave his first State of the Union address. I am encouraged by President Trump's speech. As this year begins, we're starting to see the positive impacts of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which cut taxes for millions of Americans. Tuesday, President Trump also talked about his plan to keep America safe and prosperous and for rebuilding our nation's outdated infrastructure. In the coming months, I will work with my colleagues on the House Judiciary Committee and Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, as well as the Trump Administration, to make this plan a reality. I look forward to another successful year under President Trump's leadership.

Releasing the Memo

On Friday, President Trump declassified a memo on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) prepared by the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI). After it was declassified, HPSCI released the memo. I read the memo earlier this month and was very troubled by the information it contained. I also believed the memo should be released to the public.

The memo says that the Steele dossier, which was paid for by the DNC and Clinton campaign, was an essential part of a FISA application targeting Carter Page, a Trump campaign volunteer.

I hope this information being released will inform the public about the abuses that have ocurred at the DOJ and FBI, and spur needed reform and accountability at these agencies so that similar abuses will not occur under any administration.

Hope no one was seriously injured in today's train crash. Prayers for all involved. Debbie and I were not on the train, we are driving.
