Continuing To Push For Disaster Relief

Discussing the need for disaster relief with Senator Ted Cruz and Governor Greg Abbott during a visit to Refugio.

Last week, I toured areas devastated by Hurricane Harvey with Governor Greg Abbott, including Rockport, Port Aransas and Refugio. Debris removal and housing continue to be top priorities, and with most schools reopened (albeit many in temporary facilities), the areas continue to rebound.  I’ve been working closely with the governor’s office, congressional leadership, and the White House to ensure Texas and especially our congressional district are not forgotten and we get the help necessary to rebuild.

That’s also why I voted last week in support of additional funding for Hurricane Harvey relief. This legislation will ensure flood insurance payments can be made to Texans who paid for flood insurance and were ravaged by Hurricane Harvey. This measure includes nearly $15 billion of emergency funds available for Texas. To read my full press release on passage of the bill, please click here.

Supporting President Trump's Executive Order

Repealing and replacing Obamacare remains one of my top priorities. While the House passed legislation to repeal Obamacare, it failed in the Senate. In response, President Trump issued an executive order last week that will provide Americans with more affordable health care choices, increase competition and push back at healthcare monopolies. It also provides alternatives to Obamacare plans by allowing employers in the same line of business anywhere in the country to join together to offer health insurance coverage to their employees. I applaud President Trump for this important step in helping Americans who are suffering under Obamcare’s burdensome regulations. I will continue working to permanently repeal and replace Obamacare.

Highlighting the Work of Team Rubicon

Last week, I spoke on the House floor to thank Team Rubicon and all other volunteers who are helping assist victims of Hurricane Harvey with storm cleanup, not only in our district but throughout the State of Texas.

Team Rubicon, founded in 2010 by two Marines, unites the skills and experiences of veterans and first responders to rapidly deploy emergency response teams. Members of the Texas delegation and I worked alongside them several weeks ago aiding in demolition and cleanup in flood-impacted areas. Last week, Janice Dean of Fox News visited our district and told the story about how Team Rubicon is helping with debris removal in Wharton.

I want to thank Team Rubicon for all the help they have provided the folks of Texas, especially Wharton, and the people around the world who have suffered disasters since 2010. I also want to thank Janice Dean of FOX News for helping tell their

Ribbon Cutting for the Fallen Aviators Memorial

The ribbon cutting for the new Fallen Aviators Memorial in Corpus Chrisi.

Last Thursday night, there was a ribbon cutting for the new Fallen Aviators Memorial in Corpus Christi’s Ropes Park. Luis with my office presented a copy of the speech I gave on the House floor to commemorate the opening of the memorial, which commemorates military aviators that paid the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.
