WASHINGTON – Congressman Blake Farenthold (R-Texas) attended a signing ceremony Monday afternoon in Dallas for the 287(g) program.
The 287(g) program allows state and local law enforcement agencies to partner with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for immigration enforcement. Through the program, law enforcement personnel are nominated, trained and approved by ICE to help keep our communities safe and secure.
The following South Texas counties entered the 287(g) program on Monday: Aransas, Calhoun, Lavaca, Matagorda, Refugio, Wharton, Jackson, and Victoria. Eleven counties from other parts of Texas also joined the program Monday.
“This program is essential to enforcing immigration laws and public safety,” said Congressman Farenthold. “I’m glad eight counties in the district I represent are partnering with ICE to keep our communities safe and working with federal law enforcement is one way to do this.”
Through the program, law enforcement personnel are nominated, trained and approved by ICE.
